The Suncorp Graduate Program has really given me the drive I needed to kickstart my career. I joined Suncorp as an intern back in 2018, while I was still in university. After completing the 12-week program, I was given the opportunity to work part-time while completing my degree. When I finally graduated in 2020, my role transitioned from being a part-time intern to a full-time Graduate Software Engineer.
Suncorp has an exceptional community of staff, where everyone is supportive. Not only has it made me grow into my career, but I’ve also made some very close friends. It’s been challenging, don’t get me wrong. But I think that the trust Suncorp gave me as an intern to perform the same level of work as any other person in the team showed me just how invested the organisation is in growing my career. These actions from day one affirmed to me that this is the place I wanted to grow my career.
In my opinion, it’s not so much about who you are, but the ambition you have to be a successful Suncorp graduate.
I’ve been lucky to work on some really exciting projects. My first project was to automate a process used to send sensitive files to others, and develop a web application which allows users to send and view their file transfers. This project and many others I’ve worked on have directly contributed to Suncorp’s long-term cost-savings – it’s a huge accomplishment for our team.
In my opinion, it’s not so much about who you are, but the ambition you have to be a successful Suncorp graduate. You have to be resilient and ready to take on challenges. It's what's gotten me to where I am at Suncorp today.
