Suncorp Group CEO Steve Johnston said while the true extent of damage won’t be known until flood waters recede, Suncorp’s teams are already assisting those customers who were affected.
“The torrential rain and now flooding has meant it hasn’t been safe to get our teams on the ground yet, but if conditions improve in coming days, we will be there as quickly as possible to assist customers face-to-face,” Mr Johnston said.
“At this stage the safety of everyone is the number one priority, so we continue to ask the community to please keep listening to the authorities.
“Our mobile Customer Support Teams have been making welfare calls to impacted customers ahead of being deployed into the impacted communities when it is safe to do so. In the last week we have also sent more than 35,000 SMSs to customers to help them prepare, lodge claims and provide advice on what to do next.
“Since TC Jasper crossed the coast last week, we have received more than 500 insurance claims, mostly for damaged homes in the Cairns region. We expect this will increase with the current flooding, and we have our claims specialists, assessors and builders ready to swing into action.
“Our teams are available 24/ 7 to help impacted customers to lodge claims, arrange emergency repairs, organise temporary accommodation for customers with severe damage to their homes and can provide cash payments to make emergency purchases.
“These extreme weather events can be really stressful, that’s why it’s important our teams are there to help as best they can and as quickly as they can.”
Additionally, Suncorp Bank has activated its disaster relief package for personal and business customers impacted by current weather events. Affected customers can contact the bank on 13 11 55 to discuss options available to them.
