Suncorp is committed to supporting customers when they need it most, including in times of crisis. Which is why we’re proud to be part of the launch of One Generation, Australia’s first business alliance against family and domestic violence.
One in four women in Australia will experience family and domestic violence in their lifetime. As part of our strategy to enhance support for customers experiencing vulnerability, Suncorp partners with community organisations, experts and not-for-profits to ensure impact reaches those who need it.
One Generation leverages Australian corporate leaders like Suncorp to drive business solutions at scale for customers impacted by domestic and family violence. The initiative was co-founded by not-for-profit Thriving Communities Australia (TCA) with support from social enterprise Flequity Ventures (Flequity). This is Suncorp’s second initiative with Flequity; its first announced earlier this year as part of the national Respect and Protect initiative.
One Generation provides practical tools and resources to businesses to help them provide better support for customers experiencing domestic and family violence, foster a culture of respect to prevent gendered violence, and share learnings. Suncorp joins corporate leaders from AGL, EnergyAustralia, Optus, Origin Energy, South East Water and Yarra Valley Water - and they’re calling on other businesses to join the alliance.
Suncorp CEO Steve Johnston said corporate organisations joining initiatives like One Generation was imperative to driving change.
“The more businesses that can get involved in this initiative, the bigger difference we can make,” Mr Johnston said.
“We all work in diverse industries. We all work with different customer bases. Sharing information, sharing experiences, sharing the things we're doing can only make things better.”
TCA CEO Ciara Sterling said corporate service partnerships like One Generation were vital to tackling domestic violence, as they are often the first port of call in times of crisis.
“Essential services are often the first lifeline for customers facing domestic and family violence,” Ms Sterling said.
“In that moment, their impact can be truly life changing. But we know many victim-survivors aren’t accessing the support available, largely because they don’t know about it. We want to change that.”
In addition to providing helpful resources to corporates within the alliance, One Generation will use partner support to fund research on the lived experience of diverse customers, with the aim to make it easier and safer for victims of violence to seek support.
